Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This 2013 drama was able to narrowly defeat No Country for Old Men as the greatest Coen brothers movie, ranked by Metascore. Starring Oscar Isaac as the titular character, this film follows one week in the life of a struggling folk singer. Inside Llewyn Davis won the Grand Prix award at Cannes Film Festival, while the film was also nominated for two Academy Awards and three Golden Globe Awards.
"While the bleak, funny, exquisitely made Inside Llewyn Davis echoes familiar themes and narrative journeys, it also goes its own way and becomes a singular experience, one of their best films." —Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times
