Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
This heartbreaking black comedy is about a couple—played by Nicolas Cage and Holly Hunter—desperate to start a family. There's just one problem: their plan involves stealing a newborn baby. Although it wasn’t a huge hit, the second film in the Coen brothers’ filmography has achieved cult-classic status.
"These fraternal film makers have a lot of imagination and sense of fun - and, most of all, a terrific sense of how to manipulate imagery... But sometimes they seem to be getting too big a kick out of their own shenanigans." —Julie Salamon, Wall Street Journal
