Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
It took nearly two decades, but the Coen brothers finally tried their hand with black-and-white photography in this 2001 drama. Billy Bob Thornton, before his turn as the evil Lorne Malvo on FX’s Fargo, stars as a barber turned failed blackmailer in one of the more underrated movies from the Coens.
"When you're in the hands of the Coen brothers, you're in for sheer originality." —Desson Thomson, Washington Post
