Every Coen Brothers Movie, Ranked
Joel and Ethan Coen’s 17th movie, Hail, Caesar!, was recently released, and—SHOCKER—it’s getting pretty darn good reviews. So good that it’s one of their 10 best films, according to top critics. And that got us thinking, “What is the best Coen brothers flick ever?”
Now, using Metacritic’s unique scoring system, we’ve found the answer to that very question.
Some of these rankings might be downright surprising. (We’re talking to you, Big Lebowski fans.) But more importantly, which classic Coen brothers flick made it to No. 1?
There might not be a more Coen brothers-y movie than this 1994 flick. Tim Robbins stars as Norville Barnes, a naive mailroom clerk who is appointed president of a failing company and eventually invents the hula hoop. This film was co-written by the Coen brothers and their former roommate Sam Raimi.
“The Hudsucker Proxy is the Coens' fifth feature in a decade, and you can see their tremendous artistic growth in every frame of the film.” —Edward Guthmann, San Francisco Chronicle
