The 20 Best Video Games of 2019 So Far
Which games impressed professional reviewers the most during the first half of the year? Above, we rank the best-reviewed videogames released between January 1, 2019 and June 30, 2019 by Metascore. If a game was released on multiple platforms, we included only the version receiving the largest total number of reviews (usually, but not always, the PS4 version). Newly released ports of games released in prior years on other platforms are excluded, unless they are substantially different from the prior release.
Elite takes the story from the influential 2009 Japanese sci-fi visual novel Steins;Gate and turns it into a fully animated tale by combining brand new animation with footage from a 2011 TV adaptation.
“It’s surprising just what an impact the new animations have in Steins;Gate Elite -- the additions take an already excellent visual novel and makes it feel much more dynamic and intense. What's more, being able to finally play Linear Bounded Phenogram in English is just the icing on an already very scrumptious cake. Elite is the complete visual novel package, and pretty much the best that the genre has to offer.” —Push Square
