AMC's 10-episode adaptation of the novel by Dan Simmons is inspired by true events—specifically, the Royal Navy's 19th century search for the Northwest Passage—though it adds a bit of a supernatural horror element to the wintry proceedings. (There's a reason it's titled The Terror.) Produced by Ridley Scott, the series stars Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciarán Hinds. The network is turning The Terror into an ongoing anthology series, recently announcing that next year's second season will be partially set in a Japanese-American internment camp during WWII.
