The Best Xbox Games of 2022
Which Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One games impressed professional reviewers the most during the past year? We rank the best-reviewed titles released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022 by Metascore. Games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible for inclusion. If a game appears on both Xbox platforms, only the version receiving the higher quantity of critic reviews (typically the Xbox Series X/S version) is eligible for inclusion. (All scores listed here are from December 31, 2022.)
(#8) Turtle power, indeed. Featuring retro-styled pixel graphics and original music from the likes of Ghostface Killah and Mike Patton (among others) and developed by some of the team behind cult favorite Scott Pilgrim vs The World, surprise hit Shredder's Revenge is a side-scrolling beat-em-up that might just be the best videogame spinoff from the long-running comic book/cartoon/movie franchise. (There have been many TMNT games over the past three decades, but none have scored higher.) Playable characters include not only the four turtles—voiced by actors from the original TMNT cartoon series—but also April O'Neil, Splinter, and Casey Jones. Grab some pizza and some friends: Shredder features co-op multiplayer for up to four players.
“If you’re a fan of the old TMNT arcade games, you’re a shoe-in for liking this game already – it was practically made for you! If you’re not a fan of the TMNT arcade games, well, you need to become one, because this co-op beat’em up is too good to pass up and everyone needs to give this game a try.” —Gamers' Temple
