HBO's five-part documentary series centers on a dark period in Atlanta's history, when at least 30 young African Americans were abducted and killed. That history is by no means over; the investigation into the killings was recently reopened by current Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms despite the fact that a young man was long ago convicted and sentenced for some (but not all) of the crimes.
