A co-production with the BBC, this 12-part adaptation of the hugely acclaimed best-selling novel by Sally Rooney comes from Lenny Abrahamson (Room, Frank). The story follows the relationship between two Irish teens (Daisy Edgar-Jones, Paul Mescal) as they leave their small town to head to college in Dublin. Abrahamson (who just signed on to adapt another Rooney book, Conversations With Friends, for Hulu) directs the first six half-hour episodes, and Hettie Macdonald handles the rest. The stars also just reprised their roles for a pair of sketches for charity: one showing the characters 40 years in the future, and another that's effectively a Fleabag crossover.
“It’s a triumph in every way, from acting and direction to script, and if we see a better drama – certainly about adolescence, one which takes it seriously without treating it indulgently – this year, I’d be very surprised. It’s a beautiful, hugely beautiful thing.” —Lucy Mangan, The Guardian
