Original: ▣ Infernal Affairs (2002), directed by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak
Director Martin Scorsese and screenwriter William Monahan took the basic story of the Hong Kong organized crime thriller Infernal Affairs and relocated it to Boston, substituting the Irish mob for the original's Triad and also loosely tying the film to the real-life story of gangster Whitey Bulger. Featuring a powerhouse cast led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg, the result won four Oscars, including best picture.
