Original: various, dating back to Lassie Come Home (1943), directed by Fred M. Wilcox
Eric Knight's 1940 novel Lassie Come-Home inspired numerous movies—and a few television shows—featuring the titular collie across the following decades. This somewhat grittier British/Irish reboot directed by Charles Sturridge and starring Peter O'Toole and Peter Dinklage returns to the setting of the original novel. It received surprisingly strong reviews but nevertheless failed to attract much of an audience. As a result, Lassie hasn't been seen on the big screen since.
