30 Best Movie Remakes (and Reboots) of the Past 30 Years
Hollywood may be in love with remakes, but critics don't usually share those warm feelings. Nevertheless, revisiting an old property can sometimes prove fruitful, and not just commercially. In the gallery above, you'll find the best-reviewed remakes and franchise reboots of the past three decades, ranked by Metascore. (Note that a movie must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics to be eligible.)
Original: Five Feet High and Rising (2000), directed by Peter Sollett
Peter Sollett's 29-minute, semi-autobiographical short film about a 12-year-old boy named Victor living in New York's Lower East Side won an award at the 2000 Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by the performances of the short's young stars, Victor Rasuk and Judy Marte, Sollett decided to rework the material to be truer to their own real-life experiences. The resulting feature again screened at Cannes, where it received a very strong reception from reviewers. Sollett has since directed only two other features, most notably Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist.
