Below is our list of the 15 best-reviewed debut albums of 2016, ranked by Metascore. Note that albums must have at least 7 reviews—and be a full LP, rather than an EP—to be eligible for inclusion. Albums are ranked by Metascore prior to rounding.
(4AD) Yet another rising Australian star, Oliver Perry first began collecting praise with his 2013 EP Tropical Oceans. Blending blues, African guitar sounds, horns, and various other genres and instrumentation (often manipulated to sound alien), D.D. Dumbo's debut has reminded reviewers of artists ranging from Talking Heads to Captain Beefheart to Paul Simon, and it recently earned Triple J’s coveted "J Award" as the best Australian album of 2016.
