What to Watch in August: 17 Notable TV Shows & Streaming Movies
Here be dragons! The month ahead will bring HBO's long-awaited Game of Thrones prequel, the latest Marvel and Star Wars shows, the return of Beavis and Butt-Head, and more. In the gallery on this page, our editors have selected the most interesting TV and movie titles debuting at home in the next month, listed in order by premiere date.
Season 1 (of the reboot) debuts August 4 on Paramount+
Mike Judge's cult classic animated comedy series, which ran for eight seasons on MTV in the 1990s, gets a streaming reboot a little over a decade after a short-lived MTV revival (and just a few months after a new streaming feature film). This time, the revival is guaranteed to stick around longer: Paramount+ has ordered two seasons of Beavis and Butt-Head, which returns Judge as writer, producer, and voice of the two lead characters, who now live in the present day (or at least a world where TikTok exists). Many episodes of the original series—including the music videos over which the characters comment, MST3K style, in between sketches—are already available to stream on Paramount+, and eventually (once remaining licensing issues are sorted out) the full library should be streamable.
