Drama series debuts April 21 on Apple TV+
An eight-episode, live-action adaptation of the best-selling manga series by Tadashi Agi, Apple's latest bilingual series features dialogue in both French and Japanese as it follows a young French woman (Fleur Geffrier)—a wine novice—who must compete with a brilliant young Japanese oenologist (Tomohisa Yamashita) to inherit the legendary wine collection left behind by her estranged father, a famed wine writer who has just died. The manga series was previously adapted for Japanese television over a decade ago, and this new international production switches the nationalities (and even gender) of several main characters (who are all Japanese in the source material) but aims to maintain the authenticity of the manga, which may have been even more influential on wine sales in Asia than the movie Sideways was for America.
