Shakespeare's Scottish play has been translated to the big (and small) screen over two dozen times—dating back to 1905. This rather bloody version from Snowtown director Justin Kurzel mostly retains Shakespeare's language and setting while dialing up the intensity and scale, with a few critics at its Cannes debut ranking it among the best Shakespeare films to date. Also earning plaudits were stars Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard, who could also be headed to Oscar nominations.
