With a slew of big-screen video game adaptations in the spotlight (Ratchet & Clank, Angry Birds, Warcraft), it’s the perfect time to look back at the worst videogame flicks out there … and maybe hope that the next bunch will be better.
The spirits were certainly willing, but the CGI was weak. Although the photo-realistic animation was cutting edge for 2001, the characters still fell into the uncanny valley. To watch an entire film with such creepy figures detracted from the already lifeless plot. A box-office bomb, Spirits Within is blamed for the demise of production company Square Pictures, which only recouped $85 million of its $137 million budget.
