Sidney Lanfield
Biography: A scriptwriter in the late '20s, Lanfield began directing in 1930. He specialized in comedy, including the Bob Hope films My Favorite Blonde, Sorrowful Jones, and The Lemon Drop Kid. Lanfield also scored with the Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth musical You'll Never Get Rich; he achieved immortality by helming the 1939 adaptation of The Hound of the Baskervilles, the first teaming of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.
