Sidney J. Furie
Biography: In the mid '50s Furie began producing and directing for Canadian television. After writing, producing, and directing two Canadian features in the late '50s (A Dangerous Age and A Cool Sound from Hell), he helmed two cult horror films in England, Dr. Blood's Coffin and The Snake Woman. By the mid '60s he attracted attention for his realistic drama The Leather Boys and his espionage film The Ipcress File. The next stop was Hollywood, where he has directed a range of slick but impersonal films, most notably the Marlon Brando western The Appaloosa and the Billie Holiday biopic Lady Sings the Blues.
