Roscoe Ates

Biography: Ates stuttered as a child but was cured, then utilized this to get roles as a comic stutterer with goofy face and bug eyes. He entered films in 1929 with South Sea Rose, after 15 years' experience as a concert violinist and vaudevillean. Ates often played a comic sidekick to cowboys, particularly as Soapy in Eddie Dean flicks. He was married to actress Barbara Ray.
