Jenna-Louise Coleman

Biography: Jennifer-Louise Coleman was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, the second child of Karen & Keith Coleman, her brother Ben is 2 years her senior. Her parents encouraged her to follow her ambitions, enrolling her into a dance school when she was four. She went to Arnold School, a co-ed Independent school for 2-18 year olds in Blackpool. Jenna-Louise was the school's Head Girl in 2004 and gained straight As in her A-levels. By the age of 10 her ambition had shifted from dance to acting and while at school she took full advantage of the school's excellent facilities for drama. She became closely involved with the In Yer Space Theatre Company which was formed in 1998 from past and present pupils at Arnold School with whom she performed at the Edinburgh Festival in the play Crystal Clear. She won an award for her performance, while the play was also received favourably.

After leaving school, Jenna Louise began applying to various drama schools, including RADA and LAMDA, but then a part in a TV series came along. She opted to put drama college on hold and take the part of Jasmine Thomas, niece of the local vicar, in the long-running ITV soap Emmerdale. She stayed in the role for 4 years, appearing in 159 episodes before her character was written out at her request. Whilst playing the role of Jasmine Thomas, Jenna was nominated in 2006 for 'Best Newcomer' at the 2006 British Soap Awards; 'Most Popular Newcomer' at the National Television Awards (UK); 'Sexiest Female' at the 2007 Inside Soap Awards and 'Best Dramatic Performance' at the 2009 British Soap Awards for her part in Emmerdale.
In October 2009, Jenna-Louise made her first appearance as 'hard girl' Lindsey James in the BBC TV series Waterloo Road. A role she played throughout 2009 & 2010. During December 2009 and January 2010, Jenna Louise played Princess Apricot in Nottingham Theatre Royal's lavish pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk with Paul Zardin and Nigel Havers, as well as appearing on a variety of talk shows such as ITV's Loose Women.
2011 was a big year for Jenna Louise as she played the role of upper-class Susan Brown, in the adaptation for TV of John Braine's Room at the Top for the BBC, starring Matthew McNulty. As well as the role of Annie Desmond, a cheeky cockney stewardess in four episodes of ITV's Titanic. In addition she made her big screen d�but as Connie in the Marvel Comics' superhero spectacular Captain America: The First Avenger. She also provided the voice acting for the character Melia in the English dub of the 2011 video game, Xenoblade Chronicles.
In 2012 she played the role of Rosie Williams in the five-part drama by Stephen Poliakoff Dancing on the Edge. Most recently she has been cast as the new Companion for the Doctor in the latest season of Doctor Who opposite Matt Smith.
