Hugh Marlowe
Biography: Marlowe was born Hugh Hipple. After working as a radio announcer and stage actor, in the mid '30s he began appearing in Hollywood films; between 1938-48, however, he appeared onscreen only in 1944. From 1949-55 he was a fairly busy leading man, then he went on to second leads and supporting roles through the late '60s. He worked occasionally on Broadway and frequently on TV; he starred in the title role of the '50s TV series Ellery Queen, and for over a decade he played patriarch Jim Matthews on the soap opera Another World. His several marriages included those to actresses Edith Atwater, K.T. Stevens, and Rosemary Tory.
