Gordon Jones

Biography: In films from at least 1937, when he was signed by RKO, brawny American actor Gordon Jones received his biggest film roles early in his career. In the 1940 serial The Green Hornet, Jones was cast as playboy publisher Britt Reid, who fought criminals under the guise of the Hornet; once he donned his mask, however, Jones' voice was dubbed by radio's Green Hornet, Al Hodge. With The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap (1947), Jones began his long association with Abbott and Costello. The king-sized actor was cast as perennial foe Mike the Cop on the team's comedy series, which ran for 52 installments from 1951 to 1953. During this period, Jones also popped up as comic relief in Roy Rogers' films at Republic. Gordon Jones remained in TV and movies until his death in 1963; among his last assignments were two stints as a flummoxed high school coach in Disney's TheIn films from at least 1937, when he was signed by RKO, brawny American actor Gordon Jones received his biggest film roles early in his career.
