Gilbert Moses
Biography: When he co-founded the Free Southern Theater company, director Gilbert Moses became an important pioneer of American black theater. Over the course of a career that encompassed work on stage, screen and television, Moses won numerous awards, including the Obie, for directing Imamu Amiri Baraka's Slave Ship (1969), and a 1975 New York Drama Critics Circle for Taking of Miss Janie. Some of Moses' television efforts include episodes of Roots, Benison and Law & Order. Moses only directed two movies: Wilier Dynamite (1974) and The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh (1979).
