Everett Sloane

Biography: In his late teens Everett Sloane worked as a Wall Street runner, but then the Great Crash of 1929 cost him his job and he took up acting. He did much work onstage and to appear in thousands of radio dramas. After making his Broadway debut in 1935 he joined Orson Welles's famed Mercury Theater; like many in that troupe, he went with Welles to Hollywood and debuted onscreen in Citizen Kane (1941). He appeared in about twenty films altogether through 1964. In 1965 he committed suicide with an overdose of sleeping pills.
