Ed the Sock

Biography: Steve Joel Kerzner was a program director for an Ontario community station. A desperate host asked Steve for a sidekick, and Steve assembled a puppet from various materials; two bottle-cap eyes, green furry fuzz for hair and eyebrows, cloth for a shirt, a half-smoked cigar, and a gray tube sock. Steve put his hand inside the puppet, and Ed the Sock, a scowling puppet who could say anything, was born.

Ed started out as a political journalist, but quickly found his niche in television and entertainment. Ed was the host of CityTV's 'Ed's Night Party', a racy late-night talk show designed with adults in mind. Over the course of the '90s, Ed the Sock has become a fixture of MuchMusic, outlasting one or two generations of VJs. Ed has been the host for the annual 'Fromage' awards for the past six years running. Ed has been picked to judge bikini contests, and has had held many celebrity interviews. Steve Kerzner works from the shadows, pulling all the strings, like some sort of 'puppet-master'. Some believe that Ed the Sock is under Steve's control, and Ed has no freewill of his own. For all intents and purposes, Steve appears to be nothing more than Ed's executive producer.

Ed is a free sock, and does not cater to marketing executives or television corporations. Ed the Sock often bites the hands that feed him, such as insulting MuchMusic during Ed's between-videos segments that's being broadcast on MuchMusic. Ed's purpose is usually to try and convince the audience to turn off the television and think for themselves. At any rate, Ed the Sock's views are usually viewed as controversial.

Ed the Sock has ongoing feuds with sockpuppets Triumph the Insult Dog and and Skank the Sock.

Ed has just released his first comic book with Liana Kerzner, fellow co-host on 'Ed's Night Party' and wife of Steve Kerzner. Ed the Sock is currently working on a movie.… Expand
