Dennis Morgan
Biography: Born Stanley Morner, he worked as a radio announcer, acted in stock, played semi-pro baseball, and sang in small-time operas before debuting onscreen in 1936; for several years he was billed as either Stanley Morner or Richard Stanley. He changed his name to Dennis Morgan in 1939 and soon began playing leads in films, usually as the pleasant heroes of musical comedies and occasionally westerns and dramas; for a while he was Warner Brothers' highest-paid male star. His frequent screen sidekick was Jack Carson. In the late '50s he starred in the TV series 21 Beacon Street. He retired from the screen in 1956 but later appeared in two additional films.
