Brian Aherne
Biography: Aherne began his British stage career at age eight. After taking time off to study architecture, he returned to the stage and also found work in silent films, including The Eleventh Commandment (1924). Easily making the transition to talkies, Aherne moved to Hollywood in 1933 and first appeared in Song of Songs (1933). Known as the American's ideal of a proper, pipe-smoking British gentleman, he appeared frequently as a romantic lead. Aherne was featured in Hitchcock's I Confess. Married to British actress Joan Fontaine from 1939-43, he published an autobiography, A Proper Job, in 1969.
