Bernard Knowles

Biography: A cameraman in British films by the '20s, Knowles was director of photography for Alfred Hitchcock's '30s films The 39 Steps, The Secret Agent, Sabotage, Young and Innocent, and Jamaica Inn. Knowles began directing in 1945 with the haunted-house tale A Place of One's Own; his other notable films include the Paganini biopic The Magic Bow, the satire The Perfect Woman (which he also co-scripted), and the science-fictioner Spaceflight IC-1.
