Andy Clyde

Biography: Clyde debuted in films in the mid '20s, playing "second banana" to Billy Bevan and other comic stars in dozens of silent and sound Mack Sennett two-reel comedies. After 1928, he played grizzled character parts--sometimes that of a toothless old fool--in many feature films, primarily westerns. Clyde is best known for his work between 1940-48, when he played California Carlson, William Boyd's sidekick, in 36 Hopalong Cassidy westerns. Shortly before his death he was a regular on the TV series No Time for Sargeants (1964-65). He was married to former "bathing beauty" (i.e., swim-suited extra in Mack Sennett silents) Elsie Tarron. His brother and sister, David and Jean Clyde, were also screen actors.
