Alexander Knox
Biography: A stage actor in the States by the late '20s, Knox began acting in British films in the '30s, including Zoltan Korda's The Four Feathers. He returned to the States at the start of World War Two, and appeared in such memorable '40s films as Michael Curtiz' The Sea Wolf, Henry King's Wilson (for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor), and Sister Kenny and The Judge Steps Out, both of which he also co-scripted. Knox has acted in numerous films in Europe and America since the '50s, most notably Roberto Rossellini's Europa '51 (aka The Greatest Love), Richard Fleischer's The Vikings and Crack in the Mirror, Joseph Losey's The Damned (aka These Are the Damned), Modesty Blaise, and Accident, Andrew Marton's Crack in th World, Basil Dearden's Khartoum, Lewis Gilbert's You Only Live Twice, Michael Apted's Gorky Park, and Ted Kotcheff's Joshua Then and Now.
