While this might not be the most fun album to listen to, Neil Young and Crazy Horse deliver solid performances that elevate it from seven songs of despondency.

This new one smolders but never truly catches fire. Perhaps as a measure of the emotional disarray in which Young found himself at the time—he sounds almost as distracted at times as on that Seventies LP delayed some forty-five years–he couldn’t really cut loose, even in the comfortable company of Crazy Horse.

Neil and the boys jam on this amazing piece of work. Gateway of Love, a 10 minute jam in the mode of Like a Hurricane, is full of raw emotion.Neil and the boys jam on this amazing piece of work. Gateway of Love, a 10 minute jam in the mode of Like a Hurricane, is full of raw emotion. Going Home - with the driving beat that reminds me of Powderfinger.

Put it this way, if you are a Neil fan, this is a must have. This is Neil when he is emotionally drained (or fired up -- i think he gets so raw and vulnerable as we saw with the ditch trilogy).

Thank you Mr. Young for releasing this album. It is such a rewarding listen.
