An outstanding effort rivalling his brilliant work with The Lemon Twigs.

D'Addario’s melodic flair and virtuosity are on full, inviting display here. [Apr 2025, p.101]

Though some Lemon Twigs fans might miss Michael's edgier, thornier songwriting, big bro's serial melodicism and multi-instrumentalist nous across everything from penny whistle to cello slays. [Apr 2025, p.80]

The diminished presence of Michael (he does contribute here, but is more of a background figure) leads to a slight loss of variety, but it's hardly a deal-breaker. If you like The Lemon Twigs you will find plenty to enjoy here.

Unashamedly shaggy compared to the sibling' meticulously crafted Lemon Twigs LPs. .... An illuminating look under the hood of the creative process. [Mar 2025, p.31]

It’s not some big reinvention, more like an expansion. And honestly? It’s better to have it than not. It could have done with a couple more rockers, though. And some guitar solos.

Sonic consistency is no surprise considering that Brian’s younger brother, Michael, co-produced the album and sings on five out of the 11 tracks. Even when Brian’s operating on his own, those songs still feel like B-sides from a forgotten Lemon Twigs LP (which in turn sound like something that was unearthed from the Beatles or the Beach Boys’ storage units).
