brianNov 2, 2005Pitchfork...as relative these days as...the Animal Collective...overeducated white kids and their fear of primal impulses

GavDSep 14, 2005Style over substance? Maybe. Cliched? Maybe. Do they create a truly fantastic noise? Definitely. Sometimes when trying to find something original really gets you down and when all you really want is something dirty, ugly and oozing with reverb, The Warlocks might just hit the spot.

DougRSep 4, 2005While maybe not being the most original band in the world, the Warlocks write some of the best tunes out there. If you're looking for originality and a little less accessibility so you can label yourself one of "the elite" then look towards the Animal Collective. If you want solid songwriting with a dark edge to it than give the Warlocks a shot.

Somehow, the Warlocks have found the middle ground between the Raveonettes' Wall of Soundesque attack and the Flaming Lips' oddball fixation on love, death and outer space.
-
Surgery is quite an impressive effort, sporting just the right combination of nods to their influences and carefully balanced instrumental execution.

Under The RadarA thoroughly realized, if singularly fixated, release. [#10, p.107]
