No sanitary in-concert “best of” is this, for The Notwist have the knack of performing their pieces in a pretty faithful manner before all politeness is forgotten as they swerve into yet another freshly fleshed-out reinterpretation.

The Notwist blends all of these sounds and eras together organically and with an excitement that suggests they'll never tire of finding different ways to combine their pop and experimental sides in concert as well as the studio.

At 16 songs totaling 99 minutes, this can get a bit exhausting. However, the long, hypnotic jams that dominate songs like "Pilot" and "Consequence" (with the former clocking in over 13 minutes) make it well worth the effort as they're breathtaking in their execution. This is one of the best live albums in recent memory.

Superheroes, Ghostvillains & Stuff also shows how the Notwist masterfully blends organic and inorganic textures outside the studio, but it's also a reminder of how adventurous this band can be. [No. 138, p.59]

Fortunately, the songs are solid enough to handle a little toying around. The Notwist are talented at writing the kind of songs that hit a melancholy and serious spot somewhere in your abdomen. A little playing around with the form misses the mark of course, but it’s not a deal-breaker.
