Torres is a strong songwriter and vocalist, but I believe the instrumentation and production were her downfall on Sprinter. Though it does have some great songs, namely the singles "Strange Hellos" and "New Skin", there are others that are hampered by unpleasant sounds, like "Son, You are No Island" and "Cowboy Guilt." Sprinter combines the raw energy of Torres’s 90s forebears with modern minimalism; the result is captivating.
