Aug 13, 2024Punk without guitars has been done before -- everything has. Few have done it with the blend of skill, imagination, and flat-out commitment that Osees exhibit on SORCS 80.

UncutAug 13, 2024Dwyer's unique hiccupping rhythm continues to dominate, ensuring the band are distinctively Osees, but this is the group's most experimental and unusual record for a few years. [Sep 2024, p.37]

The WireAug 13, 2024The percussive result is a monster truck rally of low end synths stomping the shit out of some scuzzy Gun Club/X/Flesh Eaters-style Los Angeles punk trash, while a cheering section of saxophones blast and honk away on the sidelines. [Sep 2024, p.58]

Classic Rock MagazineAug 20, 2024An absolute blast. [Sep 2024, p.68]

Aug 13, 2024What’s fascinating about SORCS 80 is that it feels vaguely rootless—some sounds are familiar but the form is not. That isn’t to say Dwyer has chucked out hooks or melodies the way he did his guitar. SORCS 80 contains some of his sharpest recent songwriting—the tunes just happen to get transformed by the Osees’ execution.

Aug 19, 2024There is a grimy charm to a lot of SORCS 80, and the songs will no doubt find new dimensions when taken on the road. But this iteration of Osees feels sapped of some lifeblood.
