Mostly it's party music, pure and simple.

Songs is solid when it sticks to what it knows best, the crisp beats, playful bass wobbles and shuddering tempo. His commercial experimentations are still hit and miss, enough hit to make these departures worthwhile, but also enough miss to make you wonder if Rusko is out of his comfort zone when he branches out.

Songs does not kill Rusko's brostep monster. It just drastically smooths out the edges and makes it a bit more ready for popular consumption.

The album is still very much a tale of two cities: for every half-baked wobbly anthem that the rooster-haired cockney thug has in his pocket he still manages to surprise with an occasional outburst of borderline genius.

As a complete album [it] lacks any depth or cogency.

He seems stuck between self-consciously chasing mainstream pop crossover and some underground ideal, and pulls off neither.

There may be arguments for Rusko's moves here; it's just that they're not very well executed.

Although Songs feels consistently summery, it lacks coherence: the diverse elements don't completely gel.

Rusko on latest publication - "Songs" presents thirteen dubstep compositions drawing from among others D'n'B. However, not all the songsRusko on latest publication - "Songs" presents thirteen dubstep compositions drawing from among others D'n'B. However, not all the songs present a good level - there are too much loops messing around the main axis or repeating over and over again the same themes - what can be seen even in the "Somebody To Love". Fortunately songs like "Skanker" or a simple by construction "Opium" save release. Full Review »
