It’s heightened, messy, and heroic. That kind of big-swinging moment defines Something Worth Waiting For—an album that only a band on Friko’s level of heart and imagination can pull off.

It’s a record that leaves the kind of impression more associated with acts with far lengthier histories; second records are usually places where acts attempt to showcase their breadth, to be seen to expand on or rebel against their past selves, not double-down with quite this much confidence and depth.

Friko play with more lift and propulsion, creating songs that sprint and bloom with a confidence their debut, 2024's Where we've been, Where we go from here, only hinted at.

It’s hard to replicate the joy of discovery that was had with Friko’s debut, but rounding out the band and taking things up a notch make perfect sense. Not leaving their heart behind in the process, makes Something Worth Waiting For exactly that.

If there's a gripe to be had about the record, it's that it isn't longer than nine tracks, although there's something to be said for mirroring the debut in leaving us wanting more.

As much as ‘Something Worth Waiting For’ is a confident, seemingly effortless next step into the musical big leagues, it also feels like a warning from Kapetan to himself: to step off the brakes before the whole beautiful machine that is Friko falls apart.

Ultimately, Something Worth Waiting For is an album of good songs with some sequencing and balance issues. Its problems have nothing to do with quality in the traditional sense, but Friko will need to temper some of their maximalist tendencies if they want to seize the indie rock throne.

By key change three, your tolerance for theatricality may be tested, but Friko’s affinity for arresting melodies makes every twist and turn genuinely exciting and, with its wild, youthful spirit, their second record is the perfect soundtrack for the open road.

Something Worth Waiting For is the sound of a band not tripping into place but clawing its way to the heights of its potential.

Full of charmingly human production and killer hooks that expose Friko's beating heart, Something Worth Waiting For is almost too easy to love.

With how much groundwork they’ve already laid, Friko can afford to conduct themselves more lightly this time, but there are promises from their introduction that we’re still waiting for.

Friko's second is sonically ambitious but just as immediate. [May 2026, p.29]

It's not as immediately brilliant as its predecessor, but still possessing some fine moments. [May 2026, p.101]

As an elegant exception within an often maximalist album, “Certainty” reveals what Friko might pay closer attention to on its next outing: that the comparatively calm and quiet can make the listener lean in and better appreciate what’s there, rather than lose creative touches buried in a wall of noise.
