It seems Katy tries the same thing for years, even when everybody saw it won't fit. This album is actually better than Witness, but also sucks.

Katy Perry is back with another album. Pregnant and in clown uniform. Everyone who knows me knows that I grew out of Katy's music when I was like 14. Her music went from being bops over bops for my 11 year old self to giving me ear cancer now. But I keep giving her music a chance. I should probably accept that I'm never gonna like it again.

We have 5 previously released songs on here. We have the generic "Never Really Over" that also could’ve been sung by Zara Larsson, the typical 2010 Katy kidz bop material with "Smile", "Daisies", a song that is supposed to be deep but the fact that it sounded dated on arrival takes away all the attention from its lyrics, "Harleys in Hawaii", which seems to be a fan favorite but to me it sounds like an Ariana Grande reject and the terribly boring "What Makes a Woman", which at least has decent lyrics.

What else is left to unpack here? A lot of bland stuff ("Champagne Problems", "Resilient"), more dated stuff ("Tears Eyes"), I don’t know what "Tucked" was supposed to be and "Only Love" which sounds like something you've heard a million times before but at least it has good lyrics. Oh and with "Not the End of the World" we have another song that sounds like Ariana didn’t want it on "thank u, next". But that one is actually one of the better songs on the album. "Cry About It Later" has an interesting and different production in the verses but then its chorus comes on and ruins the whole thing. So all in all this is another 1/10 project from Katy for me. The album is pretty bland as it sounds either generic, boring or dated. Congrats on your baby Katy but this album was not it. If I had to pick favorites I would point out "Not the End of the World". That one justifies the 1 point in my opinion. Yeah.

Just not a good album, the only song that stands out is NRO and it’s a song from last year that stinks of desperation to put on the album to boost streams.

To be honest, it's far below Katie Perry's normal level. It's stupid to put some old songs on the album for better results

It's just simply...... Not good. The worst thing you can be in entertainment isn't "bad"; the worst thing you can be is "boring". And that's what this album is. Not a single interesting song, no risks taken, no experimentation, no thing noteworthy. Her music has not progressed over the years and lacks depth. The album is not cohesive and some lyrics are banal.

Nada nuevo, parece ser un refrito de witness.
En realidad necesitamos que se reinvente por que si no terminara muriendo, la respeto y todo pero naaah

I think this is her worst album so far. It has nothing in special, it is not memorable and it is boring.

It should be called Frown rather than Smile. There wasn’t a single ounce of originality in this album. She hasn’t been able to release good music since 2013. And even that was a stretch. Come on Katy. Give us good music, that you put your heart and soul into. This just ain’t it. You may have finally got back your smile, but you need to get back your talent..

The primitive album. Katy Perry, despite the statements that this is her most mature album, has remained at the level of the music industry clown. Complete lack of concept. Disappointed, this album is all cliché music by Katy Perry from the 2010s. Nothing new, same boring beats, 16 year old teen lyrics. Sad Clown: This is Katie's true face. She brought nothing new to pop music, except for boredom and apathy.

Este álbum no es lo mejor del 2020, incluso Witness suena mejor que esto. Una canción salva a todo el álbum.

In spite of, or maybe because of, her promotional spectacles—Left Shark, the whipped cream bra, teasing her baby’s name with a single release—she’s long been able to comfortably assume legions of people will listen to her music, without even asking themselves why. The unspoken question of Smile is: Why now?

Such a boring and basic Album! It sounds like Perry is stuck in her confort zone, making music for children (which has worked for he in the past but not anymore). Forgettable songs and basic production.

um dos álbuns mais fracos dos últimos tempos, nem de longe lembra a cantora que lançou Teenage Dream e Prism, músicas totalmente esquecíveis, senti como perda de tempo ter ouvido

It's sad that a big pop star such Katy Perry had declined this way. Smile has no cohesion as an album itself. Three songs are only the exception. She should take a rest and bring pop music what it deserves.

I wanted to like it as some who recieved the vinyl early said it was amazing. But every song was just meh. It sounds like 2010 pop with the same basic lyrics. I did kinda like Not the end of the world, but to spend an hour listening to a whole album to find 1 song I might listen to again kind of sucks.

Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

While Perry finds the occasional moment of quality here (Smile and Tucked both feel like the best possible music we could get from Katy Perry in 2020), Smile is an album searching for an identity—and when it fails, it falls back on lazy writing.

Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
