    The amount of ageism and sexism in the Critics reviews is annoying but not surprising. This is a very impressive album, pure pop gold down to it's core, what makes a woman is one of the best songs of the year!!!

    This album don´t deserve a yellow score AT ALL. Katy have been always proves that she´s one of the best pop singers ever, When I saw the scores, I was hoping for something really boring and forgettable, but no, this one and TD are definitely her best albums so far.

    A fun album a return to form of Teenage Dream in terms of sound with nice and polished production of Witness. The album is quite digestible for a normal listener who isn’t too familiar with Katy’s music.

    This album really brought me an incredible emotion. As a Katy Perry fan since 2010, I finally got to see direct contact with the fans with totally transparent and sincere music.
    Resilient, for example, is a song where she talks about her depression and how relisilient she had to be to be able to overcome it all.

    1. "Never Really Over"
    You can't deny that this song will make you move. It's fun, liberating and it's just beautifully put together. THE chorus honey is such a punch in the face (in a good way). This song makes me want to buy a long flowy dress, buy a long flowy wig, go in a field of flowers and simply feel liberated with nature. It's a great song. period.

    To me this is a song about hooking up and I'm here for it. The instrumentals, the lyrics, her tones to her voice fit very well. It makes me feel sexy and not guilty about the thoughts I have with hookup culture. Sometimes we all need to just have a little fun and that's okay (if it's safe) and this song is a great way to express that vibe/feeling. I love it. ALSO THE GUITAR at the end gets me every time such a good 80's vibe.

    3. "Teary Eyes"
    This song for me is like the post pardon depression that comes after hooking up and figuring out your love life. it's so relatable. I LOVE the instrumental so much. It defiantly gives me a lot of gay club vibes. I can literally picture dancing to this in the club feeling depressed as hell while drunk and alone but having a good time enjoying being present with the vibe. This song describes that feeling. It's so so so good.

    4. "Daises"
    It's a resilience kind of song about not giving up even though you have on yourself because of others idea of living. It's a good song to listen to driving by the beach or the road. I love the liberating vibe to it.

    5. "Resilient"
    Lyrically I like it. It's cute but I'm not a fan of the instrumental. Every time I hear it it reminds me of one the "The Legend Of Zelda" games.

    6. "Not The End Of The World"
    This. Song. Is. EVERYTHING. This is such a different vibe for Katy and I love it so much. The bass drop, the lyrics, her voice and the instrumental is so well put together. I love how dark it feels but it also has this transformer movie action scene kind of vibe to it. I really love it.

    7. "Smile"
    I think its cute.

    8. "Champagne Problems"
    I think of myself at a very fancy dinner party and just feeling sexy with this one lol. I love her voice vocally. The chorus is fun, catchy and is a good song to really move your hips to.

    9. "Tucked"
    I love the instrumental. The beat makes you move a lot and I'm here for it. my favorite part in the song is the "Lalalalala" part in the chorus. It's just pure endorphins lol. I like this one a lot.

    10. "Harleys In Hawaii"
    This is also a different vibe with Katy. It's very slow but sexy and her voice fits perfectly with the vibe of the song. It's very chill. HER high note at the end is amazing also. It's a good listen.

    11. "Only Love"
    I like the message with the song. That's pretty much it.

    12. "What Makes A Woman"
    I LOVE this song. It sounds so beautiful. Seeing a lot of woman struggle in my life this hits home. It's very liberating and self excepting.

    FINAL THOUGHTS:
    There is a lot of layers to this album that a lot of people don't see and I feel like that's because people have this generalized Idea of Katy and don't see her beyond her hit making. Wether this album charts or not this is an era of hers that represents hope and losing and I'm here for it. I like how she sticks to deeper meanings of situations today but keeps it hopeful in this album. It shows a lot of power and struggle of standing up but wanting to sit down and relax about your current issues in life. It has a lot of pop vibes and if you're not a pop person this is not necessarily the album you're going to gravitates towards. There are some elements I wasn't a fan of instrumentally but it's apart of her story telling and I respect that it's a different sound she's playing with to keep us talking about it. Overall I love the album. A lot of the songs are catchy, laid back, fun and liberating. Good Job Katheryn.    … Expand

From a tonal and narrative perspective, the album tells a consistent story - gradually transitioning from the lows to the highs. The record starts extremely strong - its first four tracks are all breezy, introspective, and sophisticated (particularly the pop masterpiece that isSmile is Katy’s most mature, organized, and focused album to date, each song flowing seamlessly into the next. From a tonal and narrative perspective, the album tells a consistent story - gradually transitioning from the lows to the highs. The record starts extremely strong - its first four tracks are all breezy, introspective, and sophisticated (particularly the pop masterpiece that is “Never Really Over,” which competes with “Teenage Dream” as Katy’s best song to date.) The album loses a little steam towards the middle, but manages to stay engaging on the more celebratory/romantic tracks (“Champagne Problems,” “Tucked”), and ends with the lovely “Only Love” and “What Makes a Woman.” Predictably, Smile is a pleasant extension of Prism’s adult contemporary second half (particularly the track “Resilient”), although the criticism of Perry’s use of self-empowerment cliches is fair. What makes the criticism of Smile so frustrating, however, is that the same critics who are now nostalgic for Teenage Dream (and who now call it a pop classic and a perfect album) were harshly critiquing said album just ten years ago. The critics curiously want Teenage Dream Katy back, but when Teenage Dream Katy was around, they didn’t appear to appreciate her either. When Katy experimented with new sounds on Witness, critics asked for her to stay in her lane; when she returned to bright pop on Smile, she’s accused of being boring and not taking chances.     At this point in her career, I feel like she's just doing whatever makes herself happy, and that's simply enough. Personally I think the album itself is a 7 to 8; however, because the critics have been too harsh on her, I would give her another point just for that.

    Smile manages to be better than its predecessor, Witness. But it is still behind the illuminated PRISM.
    NRO, CAIL, TE, CP, Tucked, HIH are the best tracks, the rest are, unfortunately, forgettable and expendable.

    It's a really fun album that will literally bring your smile back! each song is completed in each other to the point that in the end she learns everything from the journey she took and finally have your smile back :)

    O sorriso amarelou? Nem tanto. Katy entregou um álbum divertido e até interessante. Senti algumas boas mudanças dos álbuns interiores, mas ela entregando um pop um pouco mais maduro seria algo maravilhoso e que eu iria querer muito escutar. "Never Really Over" tá aí de prova que ela pode fazer isso e muito mais. Enfim, a felicidade da artista vem em primeiro lugar.

    Katy Perry is back to her bubblegum pop. Cry About It Later deserves to be a single, and Only Love has become my favourite song of th album.

    This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Each song on the album has a particular purpose, to make you smile. This is a great pop-disco-electro album. Why? Because as Miss Perry mentioned, this would have combinations of its previous eras, as' Resilient 'recalls an experimental and risky' Witness', or as' Cry About It Later 'returns us to a pop-rock of the' One of the Boys', we can also mention the sensuality of 'Never Really Over' tying a disco touch with 'PRISM' and we must not forget the sweet and adolescent stage that 'Only Love' or 'Tucked' brings with 'Teenage Dream' . This is certainly a great album, with a hint of the old eras and re-incorporated sounds like 'What Makes a Woman' introducing a country song with electronic touches (an inspiration would be Kacey Musgraves with Oh, What a World). This album deserves rave reviews and a focus on the album, but not a focus on personal life and untimely comparison.… Expand

    'Smile' definitely shows Katy Perry's growth as an artists over the last 3 years. This album is for sure her most cohesive album with a clear story developed through the record. Each song has its unique style with the standouts being "Never Really Over" and "Cry About It Later", which highlight Katy's pop-dance music while "Not the End of the World" dives into Katy's trap pop style and'Smile' definitely shows Katy Perry's growth as an artists over the last 3 years.     After the Witness era Katy manages to deliver a more cohesive work. With better lyrics and good beats for the dance. Cry About Later is the best song on the album. But we have good times with Not The End Of The World CHAMPAGNE PROBLEMS in addition to the most emotional moments at the end like Only Love

    It has the Katy essence but tell us a story. It isn’t just another pop album or another Katy album. You can dance to it, can jive, can cry, you can FEEL! Not a big Katy Perry fan but she really nailed it on this one.

    Katy Perry did what she promised she would do: an album full of bops. Not only she found her smile embracing herself, as the popstar she is but is also finally releasing the music she wants unapologetically. Smile is a delight from start to finish - even Harleys In Hawaii, that on a first listen feels out of place on the album, ends up fitting the feel-good narrative.

    a genuinely pop album. despite the somewhat outdated production, some tracks stand out and the whole feeling that katy put on the album we can feel for the compositions. is the best album of the year or katy's career? hummm no. but it's a great album.

    Without fleeting moments of bad taste, Perry does indeed sound mature, but she's also not quite as fun. That's a conscious choice, though. Smile is intended to evoke memories of her frivolous younger days while pointing toward a sustainable pop future.

    Like Joanne before Chromatica, Smile plays like a necessary centering exercise, indulging her insecurities and less surefire instincts. If Witness was overdetermined, Smile is an earnest exhale, for better or for worse. It delivers an image of her journey towards inner peace that is honest (if corny) and catchy (if not exactly inventive).
