Seeing Other People

Though it lacks some of the standout avant-garde moments of the band’s earlier work, it also eschews the messy missteps that had popped up from time to time. Seeing Other People is also the most focused and controlled Foxygen album and its intricate melodies and infinite hooks will be remembered long after the band is no more, whether France and Rado realize it or not.

Seeing Other People initially appears slick and self-obsessed, very nearly to a fault. But scratch below the surface and there’s tongue-in-cheek humour.

It stays true to the duo’s journey of experimental pop rock sounds, while finding energy in existentialism.

One of the only things missing from the album is flow between tracks. Songs hit a satisfying ending, but then fade out and move to a track that doesn't connect to what the listener just heard.

On their sixth LP, unpredictable Californians Foxygen are less up for a bop than an attempt at settling some scores.

Though France warded off rumors of a band breakup prior to the album's release, it's clear that Foxygen is moving on from the past in dramatic fashion with an album that's part formal complaint and part kiss-off.

There's a loose swagger throughout the nine songs. ... It seems that Foxygen rolled through Seeing Other People, making new music for the sake of making music.

Foxygen have perpetually raised the question: Do they really mean it? On Seeing Other People, they drop the act and give it to you straight: If you are getting tired of Foxygen, well, they are, too.
