Walking the fine line between so many gradations of emotion can be tricky, and there are more missed opportunities on Say Yes! than revealing interpretations.

There are mimics here but actually surprising few for a tribute. The best salutes to the famously fragile songwriter reincarnate his work in new guises. [Nov 2016, p.87]

If this had been an EP of a handful of tracks, it could have been stunning, but it's a record that frustrates and bores much more than it touches.

Only the last song, Wild Sun's straightforward, vulnerable take on "Easy Way Out," finally hits the mark. [No. 137, p.61]

I discovered this record before discovering the material it is giving tribute to. "The Ballad of Big Nothing" as covered by Julien Baker isI discovered this record before discovering the material it is giving tribute to. "The Ballad of Big Nothing" as covered by Julien Baker is incredible. "Pictures of Me" covered by Amanda Palmer is so, so good. Then you have Tanya Donelly & J Mascis which are absolutely terrific, as is every other cover on this record. I then began to research the original material. Elliot Smith was brilliant. Hearing his original versions made me appreciate the love that went into this tribute album. I take my hat off to all involved. Well done. Bravo. grade: A Full Review »
