Robby Krieger & The Soul Savages is hip, relaxed, and confident. The quartet sounds like they're having an exceptionally good time and that translates to aural gold for the listener.

Krieger still has an ear for organists, and moody interplay with Ed Roth, as on the track Samosas & Kingfishers, remains his comfort zone. More genteel than their name would suggest, The Savages are nonetheless consummate players, with textured grooves at their dexterous fingertips. [Mar 2024, p.104]

But, for all the technical proficiency, there's a sense of nobody ushing themselves too hard. [Mar 2024, p.91]

It's all very tasteful and refined, but ultimately feels a little bloodless. [Feb 2024, p.30]

At points it's jazzy, then psychedelic, then with the sort of undulating groove that makes you wonder what it might have sounded like if Booker T jammed with the Average White Band. [Mar 2024, p.81]
