Selena Gomez is back and freer than ever. This album is everything but rare. It feels liberating, confident and powerful. Gomez has for sure reinvented herself and her sound. I can hear a dramatic but very sweet and correct musical evolution. This album is everything but rare. It feels liberating, confident and powerful. Gomez has for sure reinvented herself and her sound. I can hear a dramatic but very sweet and correct musical evolution. The album sounds like spring; a rose flowering from the darkest moments of life to emerge from the ground as one of the world's most beautiful gifts. It is truly inspiring how Selena has been able to leave the "Stars Dance" mainstream pop and its desire to earn a gold certification apart and focus on making an album that is loyal to her personality and her underrated vocal ability. Gomez sounds amazing in this whisper tone register and breathy voice in this act of divine ruthlessness, full of dance-y, mid-tempo clarity project.
The album doesn't have a storyline at all and doesn't mainly focus on her fight against lupus nor her romantic relationships, which is something I wanted to listen from her. Neverthless, with this album she is making a statement of confidence, self-empowerment and self-love, focusing on herself. Definitely a smart move for the singer.
Gomez has made an album that feels like a conversation with herself, making "Rare" the album that she'll for sure remember as her most personal and loved one to date since it plays the role of a love letter to herself written with Swedish pop music mixed with a little bit of craziness and weirdness. An amazing recipe for this highly amusing album.

This album has no skips. Production, lyrics, vocals are all well done. My favorites are Crowded Room and Sweeter Places.

the only meaningful songs in this album that I can respect would probably be “cut you off”, and “rare”. Other than that the majority of the album falls extremely flat.

Íncrível como selegend só dá orgulho. Rare é bem diferente do revival. Mas calmo e na zona de conforto de selena. Um hinario sem precedentes. Felizmente não irão se arrepender ao ouvir

Basic, the same sounds over and over again. There’s nothing innovative Some lyrics are good like loose you to love me (she didn’t even wrote it) but that’s it.

In recent years, pop music has become non black artists trying to dip their toes in trap music and black adjacent music, and while it does sound good at that moment, it doesn’t necessarily age well in the meantime. Selena sticks true to her roots and lets the public know that she appreciates pop music. This album is definitely sweet, and so is A Sweeter Place featuring Kid Cudi (the closing track of the album). This album recognizes confidence, self growth, and being your own savior instead of letting someone else save you all while keeping the songs catchy. Listen closely to the lyrics and you can tell she does not need someone to be her hero, she is her own hero. This is very Tove Lo inspired, and that is true modern day pop music. The production is superb, and so are the lyrics. Great job Selena, this tasty album was worth the 4 year wait. Expand

I'm not a Selena Gomez fan, and tuned in to hear the song with Kid Cudi. But I ended up streaming the entire album from end-to-end. Memorable songs with catchy production that stick in your head!

Gomez not only makes an album full of sounds that catch you, but it's also her own flag with which she grows in love without differences and how telling different stories cure shimsty.

Rare continually teases intriguing forays into leftfield pop, but so many of the album’s experiments come off as just that, without ever crystallizing with memorable hooks.

The record she has delivered to kickstart a new decade is a career defining release, and from a pop star who is firmly back on top of her game.

While none of these 13 songs attempt the subtle weirdness of “Bad Liar” and the emotional thesis—self-love!—can be a bit one-note, Rare is the 27-year-old’s most cohesive record to date. ... But it’s difficult to come away from Rare with any real perspective on who Gomez is other than that she doesn’t want to be the person she was, whoever that similarly mysterious shadow was.
