This album is pretty meh to me. I do like the combination of orchestral instruments and electronic beats on some of the songs (shut up, 34+35, love language, etc) but sadly the album doesn't explore that sound as much as I thought it would. Everything after track 3 kinda felt like listening to a vacuum of pop noise, but then after "Nasty", everything gets good again. So I dunno what to sayThis album is pretty meh to me. pov is such a good song too. Definitely my favorite off the album.

Good album, but not as best as her previous work. Should have been an EP with 34+35, just like magic, my hair, nasty, love language and pov. There are some songs in the album that feel lackluster such as west side and obvious. She releases music so quickly that she it’s just quantity over quality which is a shame. Dangerous Woman is still her best album to date.

Cómo sea, algunas canciones tienen buenos ritmos, y letras divertidas tales como My Hair, o Off The Table.

A lot of the songs on the album show potential, but ultimately suffer from sounding undercooked. The first two songs are hands down the worst songs she's ever recorded. Starting from track 3, the mood shifts and the songs get progressively better. I particularly enjoyed my hair, nasty, love language & pov. Nevertheless, none of the aforementioned tracks can hold a candle to her biggest hits. The cohesive production is also one of its downsides... it is very hard to tell the songs apart after a while since all of them sort of sound alike. I still think she deserves respect for doing an album that's less commercial in nature and probably more reflective of her own taste though. 6/10 Expand

Positions is step back in Ariana's career if we compere it with her previous two albums Sweetener and Thank U, Next which were truly great albums. Album is very cohesive but at some point it turns in monotony. Lyrics are good and personal, production is also fine, but it's just something with this album that doesn't work properly, I'm afraid it will be forgotten quickly.

Very underwhelming after the amazing "Thank You, Next." I like the vibe she's going for. I love that it's all about intimacy, but it's very one note. Over the course of the year I have been listening to the snippets (like "Dirty Secrets" and "i hate u (i love u sm)"), which unfortunately turned out to fake...So I kinda already got excited for a sound that was never going to happen in the first place. That being said, I'll try not to let that affect the review as much as possible.

For me, the most disappointing part of the album would be the instrumentals. This is where the snippet thing comes in most, since all the ones I listened to were all so good and memorable, unlike the ones on the album. "My Hair" is such a bop with cute lyrics (those whistle notes girl!!!), but the beats really let me down, honestly. It could have become one of her best ever, I think, if not for that. Still one of my favorites nonetheless. My favorite instrumental on the album would probably be "Motive" and is one of the best on the album in my opinion. As a Ghostin' fan, its probably no surprise that i adore "POV." It has a better instrumental, personal lyrics, and the drops in the chorus are GORGEOUS! As for collabs, not the best and kind of predictable, as many have pointed out, but Doja Cat was really good.

The biggest complaint in the other reviews seems to be her lyrics, and I can't fully disagree. Not too many of them are memorable, but there ARE a few that stick out, at least for me. The chorus from POV and a few particular lines from Nasty (lol) being the main ones.

The best part of this album is that I feel it is the first time Ari has consistently and repeatedly shown what she could do with her voice. She's given us whistle and belted notes before, but not this much in a single album. (Ex: "imagine" was really the only one that did that on its parent album, while she used her voice to its full potential numerous times on this one.) I hope this makes sense!

Is this my favorite album from her? No. But is it terrible? Also no. I think its a good start to the next chapter of her career and sound, but its lacking something. It doesn't have the bop factor like "Side To Side" or the vulnerability/memorability of "Thank U, Next." It also wobbles a little too much and can't make up its mind if it wants to be pop or R&B, nor whether it wants to be fun/club or chill/sultry. I think it would have fared better with a more "solid" genre choice, but again, that falls on the poor production. I love the new confidence and don't mind the themes, but overall I don't think she hit the nail on the head with this one. 7/10

This is my first ever review, but I hope I did good and was constructive.

    TL;DR

Favorites: POV, Motive (ft. Doja Cat), My Hair
Least favorite (so far): Six thirty, Positions, Obviously
Don't know yet: West Side, Safety Net (ft. Ty Dolla $ign), Off The Table (ft. The Weeknd), 34 + 35

The bad part? You listen the entire album and it sounds like a only song. Doesn't give you a mountain of feelings.

I thought this album was actual quite enjoyable for the most part. I did think it needed an extra kick though, it’s an overall mediocre body of work with very few songs i’d go back to.
Destaque para: "Shut up", "Off the table", "West side" e "Pov"

Not as catchy and immediate as her previews works. But perhaps her most mature album. The vocal production, lead by Ariana herself, shows her talent and how much she does enjoy her work. There’s just no artistic evolution with this project. There was a mood she was going for that was heavily inspired by SZA, H.E.R., Ravyn Lenae and Rihanna, but the excessiveness of her vocals and harmonies on every song really hides the mood and makes each song sound the same. If she made a ‘Positions EP’ with a less is more approach, less songs, less vocals, more time for instrumental, it might actually be interesting. She could’ve kept the strong songs like ‘my hair’ for her next full album, having more time with it and figuring out what her creative direction is going to be. For those reasons, I have to give it a 5/10. Expand

This is not a cohesive piece of work, I don’t mind an album about sex, but at least try to make it cohesive. It just seemed like she was bored and wanted to release something. Songs I liked: Positions, westside, nasty, motive, safety net, off the table, and just like magic Expand

It's a strong album overall, but it lacks innovation. The lyricism can be kind of redundant sometimes. Compared to her past three albums, 'positions' is definitely the weakest.

this album was really underwhelming, i expected a lot more cause it’s ariana grande duh! there are some amazing songs in there. my personal favs are positions, 34 + 35, just like magic and pov but apart from those the rest of the songs are not it.

After an amazing album, Ariana steps down to generic rnb and proves that a good singer can make medium albums if she slips. 34+35 is forgettable, i couldn't even notice the song changed til Doja started singing and i was like "WTF? This ain't the Doja featuring". I'm deeply sad Ari made something so... average... waiting for the next album!

The album showed ariana's vocal ability (esp in my hair, pov) but it didn't fit in to the trap/rnb sound. Kind of the sound is overpowering her voice. The lyrics are average too and sometimes turning me off, especially tracks like six thirty and 34+35, considering she is expected to have artistic growth and lyrical depth as it is her 6th album. She could have done better.

the worst ariana album. It sounds way too much repetitive and nothing new. The trap beat in each track was too much used and lack of originality and quality. The lyrics are not impressive, it's just okay. Also the chorus of each song was just repeating the title of the song and that 'it.
Favorites: pov, off the table, positions and sefety net

It doesn't feel like a great album for me. The lead single was fine but I don't see any song as a possible hit. The lyrics are quite basic and all the songs sound similar, which is not necessarily bad but in this case it makes the album boring.

This album looks like it was made in less than 24 hours with all the unreleaseads and demos Ariana have been keeping in the drawer for the past 4 years. Completely forgettable, mediocre and identical to her last albums. Silly lyrics, generical instrumentals and no identity at all.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Ariana Grande managed for two years to achieve what few achieved: to score on two albums, being a Grammy winner and the supreme sum of her career, sweetener.
Perhaps due to lack of planning or the catharsis of the public to expect something more or something superior to the two previous albums, whose receptions and audience were what leveraged and prioritized her as the "Princess of pop" - even though pop was only in the era sweetener.
thank u, next has a trap style and few songs of the genre that Ariana is used to: pop and R&B, such as bloodline music.
On this album, given her versatility, she returns to R&B - the same as her first albums - and guarantees nothing more and nothing less than a dead album, as it was in her time in "dangerous woman" - where most of the songs were from other composers - and their debut album.
Ariana is no different than she was in the 2013/2015 season: she just lost the shine of 2018/2019.
positions in short words would be this: reheated of songs that talk about sex, futility, lust and in the end, almost dead, comes the final track "pov", the only intimate one - which serves no purpose, as it remains the same void of the album .
To say that this is good ... Well, it is not. It is one of the worst jobs, exactly because it has so much expectation and the talent that this girl has.
But not everything is critical: love language is great. It has a certain aura of "sweetener" and is better than many of "thank u, next" - which, unfortunately, gets to be horrible for repetition (I think Ariana is fascinated in repeated and ordinarily bad title tracks) -.
However, even though the album is a bit complicated to hear - both due to the power and repeated chords - Ariana managed to do a good job "on the fly".

Grande is making no effort to be discreet, instead explicitly owning her sexuality—the album is called Positions, after all. The juxtaposition of beautiful violin sounds and risqué lyrics has become one of Grande’s signature sounds, and it suits her well.

Grande laid bare may well be seen as a stopgap in her canon, using taboo to checkmate her past trauma, but it does pull off the rare feat of at least sounding effortless.

With little conflict and few psychological insights, Positions zeroes in on the enviable confidence that only pop stars on top of the world and with nothing to lose can afford. It's easy to write it off as empty calories, but pop has always been described in such terms: cake, candy, chocolate, confection. Positions isn't a "sweetener" but pure sugar.
