Oct 15, 2024Versatile, laugh-out-loud funny and, at times, pretty nuanced, “Play Cash Cobain” renders childish humor and romance in a seamless dance. Silly as it all is, it’s an exhibition for careful craftsmanship and execution. It just feels distinct.

Oct 15, 2024Throughout the album, he shows how singular a voice he is in today’s rap landscape.
-
Oct 15, 2024His self-produced beats do more talking than his words, filling in emotional blanks with a 4o-esque fogginess and R&B samples that add some longing to his nonstop raunchiness.

Oct 15, 2024I’m glad he found a lane, stuck to it, and rode the hell out of it until he had to go to the clinic for a shot. On the other hand “Play Cash Cobain” is nearly one straight hour of listening to another dude read me the letters he wrote to Playboy. I prefer that to a rapper bragging about how many people they’ve killed, but an hour straight of either one with no variance is monotonous. He’s a solid producer, and while pitch corrected rap singing isn’t my favorite thing, he’s better than average at that too.
