    Here's the big miss that people can't seem to understand from the outrage of fans - this is not the same Linkin Park. Their Nu-Metal rage equated to deep base, hard guitar riffs, and intense vocals coupled with moments of screaming. 17 years in one general-ish direction of the rock genre comes with a lot of expectations. Sure they experimented, but their sound stayed true to their heritage even as it evolved.

    One More Light has none of those elements. It is, straight up, a pop-electronica album meandering with the wrong voices. What's worse, One More Light is the exact clichéd, empty, fake-sythesized, auto-tuned sound that rock fans tended to turn away from. Most rock audiophiles want the depth of the distorted guitar play, the rhythmic drumming, and the strained vocals that matched the emotional strain of the lyrics. But Shinoda and Beddington's voices simply do not have the prowess to encompass what Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, Ryan Tedder of One Republic, nor Isaac Slade of The Fray do by sheer vocal talent. Shinoda and Beddington's voices are stale and flat. Therefore, their pop sound becomes stale and flat - like every Chainsmoker song ever created but without the saving grace of being an Indie outlet.

    If the article by the Toronto Sun (http://www.torontosun.com/2017/05/17/linkin-park-take-a-take-a-dive-into-pop-with-eclectic-new-lp-one-more-light) reveals anything, it's that Shinoda and Beddington are in a different place in their lives from Hybrid Theory and Meteora; now they feel they need to be apologetic for their emo-teenage angst past. I get that Shinoda wants to support Beddington as he recovers from addiction. I even get that the entire band has become more family oriented, tempering their pulsating anger, and leading the musicians to want to create the kind of music that their kids would listen to. Yet, sacrificing a quintessential rock sound under the Linkin Park brand was a bad move. Those kids will become teenagers one day and will appreciate their parent's discography once they are pumped with the same angst all the teenagers of 2000 had when Linkin Park first came on the scene.

    Let's establish a little good will: there is nothing wrong with stripping away the harder edges of rumbling guitar jams and bellowed screams in light of attempting to be more mainstream. Innovation is paramount in an industry that has become utilitarian. The main problem, though, is that too much has been stripped away, as Classic Rock Magazine acknowledges. One More Light, plain and simple, does not even deliver as a pop album. The songs are deficient of the uniqueness that has long defined the Linkin Park musical movement. Accusations that the band's sound was always so similar seems ironic here. I charge, instead, that Linkin Park's sound has dissolved into the very music their catalog had rebelled against. They now sound like everyone else. Sell outs for commercialized and deadening melodies in the same way that the Goo Goo Dolls have disintegrated into a unnerved pop band, never to return to their prime realized from Dizzy Up the Girl. Linkin Park has transformed but it is not for the better.

    There is no place of redemption here. Instead, disappointed fans will move on to other alternative rock bands who are up and coming and ready to fill the void Linkin Park has left to give their rock audiences the sound they are looking for.    … Expand

    I have been a fan of Linkin Park from the moment I heard "in the end" when it was released, They brought me into they rock/metal genre. And even though they have changed their sound from time to time I still liked what they put out. From Hybrid Theory to the Hunting Party, each album had some good songs. This album sounds like a different band to me, I hear mostly Chester Bennington singing, and almost no Mike Shinoda. They have lost their own original sound, and now sound like many other pop groups. When the single Heavy came out I was already a bit worried for the direction they are going, and this cements my fears. The conclusion, a subpar outdated pop album.… Expand

    well, let's talk about One More Light. It/s a great album but it is not a great Linkin Park album. I never thought that I would see my idols doing something like that. Nobody Can Save Me is the worst song Linkin Park has ever made in his entire career. The 4 songs they showed before the release of the album are saved a little(except Invisible) but they arrive a moment to which they arewell, let's talk about One More Light. It/s a great album but it is not a great Linkin Park album. I never thought that I would see my idols doing something like that. Nobody Can Save Me is the worst song Linkin Park has ever made in his entire career. It is of all the more rock has, good drum and good rhythm. By the way let's talk about something important: the drum. In this album, Rob, the drummer of the band, work as little as possible and I think now I miss him. Something that I also miss are Mike's f....ng raps. A single rap in the whole album and only lasts 30 seconds. The previous record that less rap had was Minutes to Midnight that had 2 songs with rap but those 2 songs were complete rapped by Mike. But LP forget that they have one of the best djs in the world and use him to be electronic pop junk. In a world where Mike and Mr. Han were doing songs like Lost in the Echo, With You or Waiting for the End are some of my favorites, the they arrive and they make me feel disappointed with them. Sorry for Now Mike sings it and does it very well as in songs like Roads Untraveled, A line in the Sand or Castle of Glass but completely destroys the song with stupid electronic pop music mix and a Chester rap, resembling the second part rap of Waiting for the End, that does not do it badly but we didn't need it, not even when they have one of the best rappers of the world. Halfway Right and Sharp Edges look like a Disney Channel and Nickelodeon songs. One More Light ends up liking me because its lyrics but I would have liked more that they would have tried harder to make a rock ballad or something like that and not what looks like an acoustic version of Iridescent . I never though I would criticize my idols so hard but if I do it is to realize that this album isn't good for them or for their greatest fans. I admit it, I like it, but I didn't like the things have turn. I like it, but prefer A Thousands Suns, Living Things or even Recharged that One More Light. I appreciate the effort they did but I would appreciate them to go back to rock and forget the pop or whatever that be that no ones likes. LARGA VIDA A LINKIN PARK… Expand

    Well... the first 5 songs are actually very good. I'm glad that they decided to take a new direction and make something different.

    But the last 5 are terrible. Not just common pop songs, but actually bad pop songs, the ones that make you change the station when you hear them on the radio because you listen 5 seconds and already hate them.     That's why i give it a 6. It's not garbage but it's not good though.

    As a faithful LP fan i have to admit that it takes courage to do something like this, knowing what kind of criticism you are going to receive. But on the other hand I enjoyed The Hunting Party a lot and I hope that the next album will bring that sound back.    … Expand

    Another great take on a genre, Linkin Park shines with beautiful tracks that all seem to be about moments of realization, along more with more uplifting tracks than previous albums where songs were just relatable.

    Linkin Park brought us one of the most uninspired records ever made. A lot of The Chainsmokers, "Indie be like" and non remarkable songs over the ten album tracks, 4/10.

Linkin Park have chose to play it safe by conforming to mainstream music trends. One More Light sounds like any other Billboard Top 40 pop album. The music lacks creativity and shamelessly rips off TheRather than taking a risk and going in a less commercial / less radio friendly / less accessible direction, Linkin Park have chose to follow the status quo and make a generic pop album. Now let me start off this review by saying I do not begrudge them for changing their style or going pop, as I infrequently listen to the Bee Gees so I am no stranger to the pop scene, however the problem lies with the fact that nothing here is uniqueLinkin Park a nu metal rock band, that exploded on the scene back in 2000, come almost 20 years later and things couldn’t be much different. Now let me start off this review by saying I do not begrudge them for changing their style or going pop, as I infrequently listen to the Bee Gees so I am no stranger to the pop scene, however the problem lies with the fact that nothing here is unique at all, there is no flavour, it is too over produced.
    The album opens up with “Nobody Can Save Me” , it sets up what people can expect from the album, it starts off with generic pop sounds and it really does sound like Owl City, not a great start.
    Now we come to “Good Goodbye” perhaps the most frustrating track on the album, genuinely the first half is good, the chorus is quite catchy and Mike’s rapping is pretty good but it only feels like Mike as gotten started when in verse 2 and 3 they decide to get Pusha and Stormzy to rap, totally killing the track. Mike is the rapper this IS NOT Fort Minor he should have done all the verses here.

    Up next "Talking to Myself", the only track where you here the guitar and thus I clinged on to the song as much as I could. Best track on the record but that isn’t saying much.

    “Battle Symphony” is next and it is okay, just a generic beat and a boring chorus really let down the track, the title alone had sooo much potential.

    “Invisible” is up next, it is generic as it gets, just repeating the same word over and over and it is a chorus, yawn, come on LP you are much better than this.

    “Heavy” is next and again is conforming to generic pop trend of getting a female vocalist. Song would be much better with just Chester.

    “Sorry for now” is another frustrating track where the drop of the song is a bunch of annoying sounds like a kid just slamming his hand on a keyboard, again so much potential just RUINED! Lyrics and Mike’s singing are solid just ruined and let down by the drop.

    “Halfway right” again is generic as all hell, nothing gripping here and they now added a bunch of “nananananana’s” again just conforming to generic pop trends.

    “One more light” is a powerful song just ruined in this album, It would have worked MUCH better in an album with hard rock, but in a pop album it just doesn’t work, the song itself is good and solid vocals by Chester.
    “Sharp Edges” is a pretty good track if I am honest no complaints here but just like the title track this would have been a perfect way to end a rock record not a pop-y one.
    Overall vastly disappointing album, Linkin Park have lost their identity, it is like buying your favourite snack brand and then finding they changed how they made it and now it just tastes like all the other brands. Too overproduced, not enough band involvement, lacks unique-ness and memorability, generic beats and cheesy lyrics ruin this album.    … Expand

    Linkin Park hasn't "evolved" they've sold out, but because their fans nowadays are the same people who listen to the Chainsmokers, so they'll eat this up. This is just bad, bland pop.

You can't come with 'na na na' and hybrid (no pun intended) songs that are a weak mixture of recent top 100 hit songs. The song "Talking to Myself" is the only song that still have a very little portionThroughout the years LP evolved (mostly in a good way), but with today's release that era is over.     I've waited until the release to analyse and judge the album with a neutral look on it. And i have to say that is really a shame that Linkin Park decided to tarnish their discography with such a weak album.

    You can't even notice any trace of real instruments being played on the record.     With electronic beats taking over the guitarist space, short lenghted songs and even multiple featured guests, Linkin Park clearly shows their intentions with a Radio friendly album that was made to sell-out.

    The only radical change made by the band was to give a middle finger to their oldshool fans that made them successful in the first place. They didn't wanted another Hybrid Theory like the group likes to insist. They wanted an original album with a Heavy sound that only them could make.

    You would think that they were walking toward the right direction with the release of The Hunting Party, but in reality all they wanted to be mainstream like everybody else.

    Mike Shinoda says that the Band likes to innovate and experiment new things each album, but this argument totally backfires when you listen to this album. This is not new, this is not original and this sure doesn't seems like innovation to me. Pop nowdays always sounds the same and One More Light is no different. Linkin Park has betrayed their own roots and fan base with the Band's weakest album yet.    … Expand

    Very lack luster album, with weak melody and chord progression. It feels cheap and uninspired. Of course they have talked about these topics before, Take Heavy, for example. That song has the same topics that Breaking the Habit once touched upon, but, obviously, the latter has a better musical structure, along with instruments and unique traits to it.     I really love what Linkin Park has done. It's a breather to try something different than their usual alternative rock genre. One More Light's songs are very catchy and serve as part of the mainstream. This album is literally very underrated and should deserve better from critics.

    Sorry For Now, Halfway Right, One More Light, Sharp Edges, Talking to Myself are all solid songs and I understand why the band did not release these as singles. They really kept the best for the last.
    There are some down moments in this album. Heavy and Good Goodbye are still poor songs. Every song follows the conventional song pattern without really experimenting in that aspect. The    Sorry For Now, Halfway Right, One More Light, Sharp Edges, Talking to Myself are all solid songs and I understand why the band did not release these as singles. They really kept the best for the last.

    However, almost all melodies in this album is catchy and goes well with the lyrics. Speaking of lyrics, the unreleased songs had the best lyrics the band has ever put out in their career while Good Goodbye and Heavy feature some of their weakest in their career.
    All in all, I'd give this album an 8 but Sorry for Now alone makes me bump it up to a 9.    … Expand

    Good job! It makes me feel overwhelmed to feel the transition of Linkin Park from the usual nu metal and loud riff they presented in their tunes all these years, to this enticing album. At certain part of the album, they give me some aura of millennial influence yet the taste of that Linkin Park still linger in every single tune especially in Good Goodbye. Keep growing and experimenting, boys!

    This band is not a run-of-the-mill "rock band", on the contrary, Linkin Park's expertise and talent spans over multiple genres. Its perhaps surprising that their first foray into "pop" is by far the best pop music out there.     One More Light is a very meaningful and emotional album, showing us that overload of drums and guitars are not necessary to create an amazing album and to convey the deep feelings within each song. (Though, the phenomenally breathtaking vocals of frontmen Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda surely help.)
    So, they have once again taken a blank canvas and have created an album from scratch, miles apart from its predecessors. It also serves as a timely reminder that these behemoths of world music are very much on top of their game.
    My verdict : 10/10 (it's the highest I can give)    … Expand

    They want to go pop, ok i can respect that. i liked all albums thus far. but really be honest and listen to the quality of the poppy songs. its really bad. i forced myself a couple of times out of respect to listen the album back and forth.

    The problem with this album is not being pop, the problem is that they are no where near how good they can be. There's no Linkin Park magic in it. It's a lazy work after keeping fans waiting for 3 years. What's worse is that they don't care at all about fan's opinions these days at all.

    Overall, Linkin Park have changed their sound a fair amount but the band still seemed to make an enjoyable and catchy album. I would definitely recommend a listen.

    Terrible album, this is coming from someone who's been with band since first single from Meteora, back in spring 2003. I've enjoyed all of their albums past nu-metal era, especially A Thousand Suns (fantastic album). Living Things was much worse, but still better than One More Light. I can't recognize Linkin Park any more, they turned into generic **** pop band using chipmunks voices, clapping, whiny vocals and basically everything that you can hear when you turn on the radio these days. If it wasn't released under Linkin Park name I wouldn't even bother to write this, because what they recorded could be released under any pop star name and no one would notice difference. That's how far they've gone from Linkin Park ''core''. I know they can do way better than that and they proved it in past. Why do they have to destroy everything that made them big and famous ? Why do they feel ashamed of their old music ? Why can't they understand that not every change is good and it can hurt you in the long run. Is it really worth to show middle fingers to long time fans who were still with the band even when their patience and loyalty is put into test with every new album ? It's not about going back to nu metal, it's about going back to making good music again. One more light seems like one more desperate attempt to hit billboard and other pop charts, to attract even more casual, teenage fans who will happily buy everything you shove into their throats. I've lost my interest in this band, but I will come back if they decide to make music instead of this garbage they've been promoting so hard in last weeks.… Expand

    I don't know whats wrong with most of the people on the internet.
    This album is absolutely an Amazing one, way better music than most of the trending music these days.
    Its all about change and evolution of music. And that doesn't mean Linkin Park cannot make what they have made before, its just that they follow change & innovation, these guys could've continued in their old style but the    I don't know whats wrong with most of the people on the internet.

    You cant expect a band to remain musically the same for 17 years, The fact that every album should sound the same is the problem with music these days. Linkin Park is experimenting, and its appreciated. This record is lyrically beautiful, especially songs like Sorry for Now and Battle Symphony. Musically, even though I think the drummer took a huge sabbatical, the vocalists and theYou cant expect a band to remain musically the same for 17 years, The fact that every album should sound the same is the problem with music these days. Linkin Park is experimenting, and its appreciated. This record is lyrically beautiful, especially songs like Sorry for Now and Battle Symphony. Musically, even though I think the drummer took a huge sabbatical, the vocalists and the producers have done a commendable job.     The issue isn't that it's a pop effort; indeed, they get points for a brave attempt so outside of their wheelhouse. The problem is that much of One More Light is devoid of that visceral charge that previously defined much of their catalog. It's a provocative challenge that ultimately fails to satisfy.
