I'm not even gonna pretend it. Eminem is stuck on his ways like always nothing to be proud of, yet his biggest and most passionated fans will look at this like a holy thing.

This album is plagued by bad beats, robotic monotonous flows and a continuous angry Eminem. Bars are decent at best, and his hooks are straight boring, nothing special here. Eminem should really reconsider his career, at this point he is just ruining it. i miss the old Eminem. But hey, at least the productions good.

An Abomination. It's sad to see how he's ruining his legacy, if it weren't for his fanbase. This brodie was done.

As always, Em's rhyme scheme's and wordplay are on point. However a lot of the songs are killed by his angry bitter vibe that emanates throughout the whole album. He will always have the best numbers, thanks in part to him exploiting tragedies for punchlines, and namedropping 100+ people, and stans willing to defend him no matter what. We all know em is a brilliant attention seeker, but this formula is getting pretty old. He can spit bars like nobodies business, but this just isn't very compelling music. There are a few bright spots, a few songs I really enjoy. But there are far too many skips on this album to consider it a classic. Love the bars, just wish he would switch up the material. Anger and bitterness is not a good vibe. He can do better. Expand

Rapping Fast does not make a good album or song. Eminem Clearly out of his rapping prime shown by corny lyrics and boring songs. definitely one of if not the worst album of this year. and its January.

Absolutely terrible album. Whilst I like the MMLP and the SSLP, Eminem has fallen off hard. his reliance on shock has waded off into the minimum of irrelevancy and the maximum of making fun of terrorist attacks. I swear that these people never understood the consequences of following a person blindly with absolutely no criticisms as seen in 'Stan'. Eminem himself makes fun of people for having no skill, yet his music becomes a washed up pair whenever he does release anything. Expand

Eminem just needs to retire honestly, he’s washed up and boring. Massively overrated and his prime was over a decade ago. It has a few tracks that are well put together but it is way, way, way too long. Most of the time. Eminem tries very hard here to maintain the edgy appeal he carried ten years back. A majority of this album as a result of this sounds corny and terribly immature. Stupid references to the Manchester attack, a stupid hook that celebrates killing an abusive step-dad, and annoying lyrics that talk about how he's the best in the game. Stupid references to the Manchester attack, a stupid hook that celebrates killing an abusive step-dad, and annoying lyrics that talk about how he's the best in the game. I'm seeing The Telegraph here giving this album a 10 on 10, and I think that is definite example of how long Eminem's status goes to improve his ratings. All of the tracks achieve very little as far as instrumentation or lyricism goes and Darkness was the only exception that genuinely tried to do something. I would give this is a zero, but this was a whole lot better than Kamikaze. I'd give Kamikaze a zero, but that was a lot better than Revival. Expand

Someone has to remind him that music needs rhythm.

It's great that Eminem can still rap fast, but it's been almost two decades since he last made a truly resonant album. He makes rap music for people who don't listen to rap and has a hard time saying anything relevant in 2020, using "homages" as an excuse to hide the lack of direction or original ideas. Terrible and difficult listen. Eminem has chosen speed over clever bars and has delivered some very cringy bars and flows that did not fit the beats. The features were decent. Young MA stole the show. Replay value is extremely low.

A desperate attempt at reconciling with the new generation but with so much resistance, that it leads to a bloated collection of mediocrity with soms bright spots like Darkness. Album doesn't know what it's going for and like most Eminem albums, has little to no cohesiveness.

Better than his latest outputs, but that ain't saying much, generic beats, childish verses and awful (awful) choruses. Yes, there are still tons of Kyles blasting his music while chugging mountain dew, thrilled to give this a 10, but that doesn't make it good. a Mediocre attempt at staying relevant.

This album is odd. To him complaining about haters, him being political and then him saying "bombs away like I'm outside an Ariana concert". This album could've been better if eminem tried. The man is close to 50 years old trying to fit in with the younger generations, it's not working.
Out of all the songs, I liked one.
Just like almost all the albums that have came out in the 1st

Just like almost all the albums that have came out in the 1st month of 2020, its repetitive as hell. His rapping is getting worse, because hes rich. He doesn't have to worry, and that's what he used to rap about.

    It got a 48/190 from me or a 25%.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don’t do what I did and waste an hour of your life. I wanted to like it, I really did. But, this thing sucks. Idk how it’s got a 9.0 user rating right now, but it sucks. I guess it just proves that his stans are insane and don’t understand the difference between rapping fast and rapping well, with substance, meaning, layers, etc. Don’t get it twisted either, I’m not an Em hater. I love MMLP, SSLP, TES, and recovery, relapse, and MMLP2 are decent-good releases as well. But this thing is a 20 pack of ass. I genuinely enjoyed 3/4 songs. I haven’t been this miserable listening through an album since Total Xanarchy (doesn’t mean it’s as bad, but it’s just so long and so boring). Most of the features did pretty well, or at least what you would expect from each of them. But I constantly found myself begging Em not to ruin the rest of the song. He just didn’t mesh well. The songs I saved were mostly saved for either the beat or the feature, with Em just being thrown in there. Without Darkness, which is wonderfully written and beautifully dark and ominous, this would be a 0. Do more of that, and less of trying to be funny with punchlines. The album title is corny, the lines are corny, the songs are corny. Em’s singing on stepdad made me want to crash my car. Horrible lyrics and punchlines for days. As time goes on I find myself hating this album more and more, much like with Revival and Kamikaze. For the record, I would sandwich this one between those two probably. He wants to be as funny as Lil Wayne and as woke as J. Cole but you can’t have it both ways. Some of the worst lyrics:

“Call us Long John Silver's, cause we selfish."

"I'm talking euthanasia, like kids in Taiwan."

“I’m contemplating yelling bombs away on the game like I’m outside an Ariana Grande concert”

“Only way that you're ahead of me is alphabetically
'Cause if you diss me I'm coming after U like the letter V”

“Stripper walk by, I'm like "Goddamn"
She's like "That's harassment," I'm like "Yeah, and?" (Woo)”

“That's the shortest thing for a dress since an addy”

While features like Anderson Paak and Young M.A. were suitable picks, Eminem does what he does best and takes some of the best production he’s had in years and completely botches it at every turn. Eminem once again proves that he should have hung his hat albums ago. Impressive features and a nice throwback theme, however the album doesn't have it's true intro until track 4, leaving 1-3 in a weird limbo state. While his speed-rapping is at it's all time best on the track Godzilla, the lyrics don't have the same shock value that they used to.

In Conclusion: Will the Real Slim Shady

He clearly cares about his output, but “Music To Be Murdered By” is, unfortunately, another mixed bag of tricks, propped up by lyrical acrobatics and underwhelming production.

If they look hard enough, any artist could find criticism of their work online. That’s sort of the curse of the Information Age. But not everyone overreacts quite as much as Eminem does. But if his fears grow tiring, his lyrical ability can still give you something to admire, even if the album is somewhat uneven.

It is not, strictly speaking, a good record—Eminem hasn’t made one of those in a decade—but it boasts enough technical command and generates just enough arresting ideas to hold your attention.
