This album is plagued by bad beats, robotic monotonous flows and a continuous angry Eminem. Bars are decent at best, and his hooks are straight boring, nothing special here. Eminem should really reconsider his career, at this point he is just ruining it. i miss the old Eminem. But hey, at least the productions good.

As always, Em's rhyme scheme's and wordplay are on point. However a lot of the songs are killed by his angry bitter vibe that emanates throughout the whole album. We all know em is a brilliant attention seeker, but this formula is getting pretty old. He can spit bars like nobodies business, but this just isn't very compelling music. There are a few bright spots, a few songs I really enjoy. But there are far too many skips on this album to consider it a classic. Love the bars, just wish he would switch up the material. Anger and bitterness is not a good vibe. He can do better. Expand

Absolutely terrible album. Whilst I like the MMLP and the SSLP, Eminem has fallen off hard. his reliance on shock has waded off into the minimum of irrelevancy and the maximum of making fun of terrorist attacks. Eminem tries very hard here to maintain the edgy appeal he carried ten years back. A majority of this album as a result of this sounds corny and terribly immature. I'm seeing The Telegraph here giving this album a 10 on 10, and I think that is definite example of how long Eminem's status goes to improve his ratings. All of the tracks achieve very little as far as instrumentation or lyricism goes and Darkness was the only exception that genuinely tried to do something. It's great that Eminem can still rap fast, but it's been almost two decades since he last made a truly resonant album. A desperate attempt at reconciling with the new generation but with so much resistance, that it leads to a bloated collection of mediocrity with soms bright spots like Darkness. Album doesn't know what it's going for and like most Eminem albums, has little to no cohesiveness.

This album is odd. To him complaining about haters, him being political and then him saying "bombs away like I'm outside an Ariana concert". This album could've been better if eminem tried. The man is close to 50 years old trying to fit in with the younger generations, it's not working.
Out of all the songs, I liked one.

Just like almost all the albums that have came out in the 1st month of 2020, its repetitive as hell. His rapping is getting worse, because hes rich. He doesn't have to worry, and that's what he used to rap about.

    It got a 48/190 from me or a 25%.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Don’t do what I did and waste an hour of your life. I wanted to like it, I really did. But, this thing sucks. Idk how it’s got a 9.0 user rating right now, but it sucks. I guess it just proves that his stans are insane and don’t understand the difference between rapping fast and rapping well, with substance, meaning, layers, etc. Don’t get it twisted either, I’m not an Em hater. I love MMLP, SSLP, TES, and recovery, relapse, and MMLP2 are decent-good releases as well. But this thing is a 20 pack of ass. I genuinely enjoyed 3/4 songs. I haven’t been this miserable listening through an album since Total Xanarchy (doesn’t mean it’s as bad, but it’s just so long and so boring). Most of the features did pretty well, or at least what you would expect from each of them. But I constantly found myself begging Em not to ruin the rest of the song. He just didn’t mesh well. The songs I saved were mostly saved for either the beat or the feature, with Em just being thrown in there. Without Darkness, which is wonderfully written and beautifully dark and ominous, this would be a 0. Do more of that, and less of trying to be funny with punchlines. The album title is corny, the lines are corny, the songs are corny. Em’s singing on stepdad made me want to crash my car. Horrible lyrics and punchlines for days. As time goes on I find myself hating this album more and more, much like with Revival and Kamikaze. For the record, I would sandwich this one between those two probably. He wants to be as funny as Lil Wayne and as woke as J. Cole but you can’t have it both ways. Some of the worst lyrics:

“Call us Long John Silver's, cause we selfish."

"I'm talking euthanasia, like kids in Taiwan."

“I’m contemplating yelling bombs away on the game like I’m outside an Ariana Grande concert”

“Only way that you're ahead of me is alphabetically
'Cause if you diss me I'm coming after U like the letter V”

“Stripper walk by, I'm like "Goddamn"
She's like "That's harassment," I'm like "Yeah, and?" (Woo)”

“That's the shortest thing for a dress since an addy”

Impressive features and a nice throwback theme, however the album doesn't have it's true intro until track 4, leaving 1-3 in a weird limbo state. While his speed-rapping is at it's all time best on the track Godzilla, the lyrics don't have the same shock value that they used to.

This does not necessarily make the album bad but gives off a very immature vibe and truly highlights just how stuck he is in the current generation of rap. Nothing new. Just Eminem rapping fast thinking it’s impressing with corny lyrics and still disses Mgk even tho the beef is over a year old. Also not only is he a hypocrite saying that autotune sucks while having Juice Wrld on here which uses autotune.

Eminem debería de hacer buena música sin ser controversial,su música se basa simplemente en criticar a otros artistas

horrible , bad, not very good. he’s an old man he needs to act his age. Trying to revive his slim shady era, 20 years later. No growth, no versatility, corny lines for the sake of rhyme (a big sacrifice)

Extremely annoying to listen to. Eminem’s extremely corny lines and fast-flows-that-aren’t-cool-anymore ruin the album. Juice WRLD and Anderson.paak were the best parts of it

Trash like everything he puts out. Nothing's changed at all, except that now he's not only making fun of people, he's also making fun of terrorism.

using a terrorist attack who killed 22 people and mocking Ariana Grande when she didn't even get over it isn't something to be proud of.
his fans are talking that "yes... it's Eminem... he always did that.." sorry but it's not because he always has been like this that we have to accept it.

The new generation may love this, but those who grew up listening to classic eminem will see the regression. This album is one of the worst albums I've heard in awhile, but unlike the mainstream mumble rap that pervades hip hop, this one hurts more when you reminisce on the talent Eminem once had. From awful punch lines nauseatingly bad choruses, and bubblegum pop features, the irony is that fans of Em's recent albums will say "it is better than what's on the radio" ignorant of the fact that Slim Shady has gone the route of hiring Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Pink, and other pop, radio artists and making singles specifically for this hypocritical purpose. When he tries to be deep and thoughtful, he comes across as someone with a shallow take on social issues, so shallow and unsubstantial, they do not warrant voicing.

He approaches some semblance of self awareness when addressing the negative reviews of his recent albums, but proceeds to remind listeners that he lives in a bubble, for he cannot understand why criticism is directed at him, claiming he should be praised for staying relevant for so long. Well...spoiler Em, it is because your music has painfully regressed in every category, and your relevance seems to be a formulaic approach of dissing old beefs, making a track about what a mistake it was, and then repeating thos process.

The only relevancy he can boast about is managing to secure a new generation of fans, who...in a depressing irony, cannot fathom why older listeners are so critical of Eminem now, for they were not around to witness what made Eminem a legend in hip hop.
It is a somber admittance to loss respect for an artist you once revered. The real slim shady evidently died over a decade ago, and the so called slim shady we see putting out albums now is a hellish, Frankenstein's monster, abomination of a creature.

Eminem has become the Star Wars of rap. There will always be a cult following that will eat up whatever **** is put out, merely because the name Eminem is attached. That tells us what an impact he has had on hiphop. Contrarily, the ones who appreciated the originals though look on with disgust at what their once beloved creation has become. And like Star Wars, we can grimly expect more and more movies (albums) to come out which will only continue to tarnish the legacy of something once so respected and cherished.

He clearly cares about his output, but “Music To Be Murdered By” is, unfortunately, another mixed bag of tricks, propped up by lyrical acrobatics and underwhelming production.

If they look hard enough, any artist could find criticism of their work online. That’s sort of the curse of the Information Age. But not everyone overreacts quite as much as Eminem does. But if his fears grow tiring, his lyrical ability can still give you something to admire, even if the album is somewhat uneven.

It is not, strictly speaking, a good record—Eminem hasn’t made one of those in a decade—but it boasts enough technical command and generates just enough arresting ideas to hold your attention.
